Today is the day! Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible. We have run a joyful, creative grassroots campaign all as volunteers. We’ve put countless hours into this because we see a unique opportunity to change the way politics are done in Missouri.
We have given out over 5000 books to local kids in the district. We have spread three thousand native seed packets with a native keystone flower species throughout the district. We have put in over 150 hours cleaning up our parks. We have built libraries. We have involved local artists and musicians in our campaign. We have knocked on 2000+ doors and talked to hundreds of people. We have registered dozens of new voters. We have held storytimes and paint nights and youth rock concerts to amplify the diverse voices throughout our community. We are proud that our team and supporters come from all different backgrounds working together, just like our district.
When I started working in Westside at the Irene Ruiz Library back in 2008 I had no idea I would fall in love with libraries. It was there working with Julie and Lynda Callen at Westside CAN that I decided I wanted to be a librarian. Whether it was community gardens or backpack give aways, the events I got to help with made me realize how great things could be if we work together for our community.
When I bought my house in the Northeast a decade ago, it was because it was the only area I could afford. I’m so glad I did. I got approved for $100,000 loan and having previously had unstable housing situations, was ecstatic to find this big project house. (And what a project!) I found out later that my grandmother had grown up three blocks away from me and was a Northeast Viking class of 1933. A couple years ago I got the chance to publicly testify to stop the KCPS School Board from closing that school. I hope she would be proud. Since moving here, I’ve attended every neighborhood meeting I’ve been available for, my neighbors have become some of my best friends, and it’s the first place I’ve truly felt was my home.
I’ve been a Democrat since I was 18, and I’m excited at the opportunity to introduce something new to the party. I’ve dedicated my life to public service and running for office has made me a better person. I’ve advocated for teens in our community for the past two decades. I’ve held parks cleanups consistently for the last 5 years, not just election years. I’ve learned Spanish. I’ve regularly testified in support of our communities. I see this position as a tool to help organize our communities and make this District a better place to live. I’m so grateful for all of you who see that, too. Let’s win this!
