I retired from Columbia Public Schools after teaching math for 34 years. In addition to being a teacher I served as the Mathematics Department Chair and a member of the school's Leadership Team. In 2011, I was awarded the NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence and in 2023 I was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the University of Missouri's College of Education and Human Development. Throughout my career in Education I was extensively involved with my local teacher’s union, where I served in many capacities, including as President from 2015 to 2021. As a member of the Bargaining Team, I fought for improved compensation and working conditions for teachers across the district.
I originally ran for state representative because our students were under attack by the politicians and special interests in Jefferson City. While systematically dismantling Missouri’s public education system, they also made sure Missouri had the loosest gun laws in the country. As a teacher who has gone through too many classroom shelter-in-place drills, I went to Jefferson City to:
- Protect public education
- Combat the gun violence epidemic
- Fight for social equity for all Missourians
After serving one year in the Missouri House, I see that instead of improving in these areas, Missouri has actually gotten worse. I am running for re-election because the issues of everyday Missourians are too important. I remained committed to being a voice for my constituents, and all Missourians who share our values.
I can’t wait to see you on the campaign trail!
