About Greg Smith

During his time at Truman State University, Greg worked for a State Representative as an intern where he learned first-hand the legislative process and the intricate nature of directly participating in government.

Greg has worked in various fields including health care, where he had direct contact with insurance companies in order to help approve needed patient medications.

His current position as a member of UAW Local 249 and Ford Motor Company has allowed him to directly participate in community projects such as Wreaths Across America, which lays wreaths on service-members graves at Christmas, helping the Homeless Veterans Assistance Coalition with their clothing drive, and Roses for Widows which is a Union led project that delivers roses and chocolates to widows, just to name a few.

He has served as member and Vice-chair of the UAW Local 249 Citizen Action Program which has a stated goal to develop, promote and implement policies and programs designed to improve and enrich the quality of American life. Through this program, Greg has assisted in electing worker-friendly officials at all levels of government, gathered signatures and engaged the community to stop "right to work" through the initiative petition process, marched in Jefferson City to force the acceptance of voter-approved medicaid funding, participated in various union organizing drives and has walked picket lines with striking workers fighting for fair contracts and wages.

He currently serves as Treasurer for the Clay County Democratic Central Committee and resides with his wife, Christy, in Gladstone.
