The Journey of 1,000 miles is only the beginning

I had a really wonderful and inspiring weekend. Friday, I took some time out to go to Liberty Fall fest with my family. We saw our friends from Clay County Democrats ccDEMScc, Jim Bates, and Northland PRIDE Network.
I got a smashing Mario-style mushroom for my canvassing bag
This canvassing bag has seen over 1,300 Charity Miles over the last 5+ months as I have wandered the 16th District to talk the people who live here. Its taken on some wear-and-tear and I have taken a bit of time recently to personalize it.
Saturday, I had my awesome volunteer crew; Susan and Anne and together we go to talk to a lot of people in the 16th district about what they would like to see from government. Many people are concerned about affordable housing and education. One voter gave some feedback on my presentation that was insightful and uplifting.

Sunday, Susan and I were back at it. Education, as always, was a hot topic, but also safety. Safety for our schools and neighbourhoods is always a concern but folks are also talking about the people and communities beyond our schools and immediate neighbourhoods. I share these concerns and I feel a deep sense of connection with people who speak, not only of their own immediate concerns, but of broader issues that impact the safety of our global community. It isn't very hard to see how investing in justice and equity plants the seeds of peace. When we sew these seeds of peace we work towards the safety we want for our own families and communities.
