Today I received official support from the IBEW local 124. Let me tell you why this is a big deal for me. My grandfather, Donald Zimmerman was a journeyman electrician for several decades. My grandfather's Union job helped him provide for his family and send my mother to college. The skills he gained as an electrician helped him to remodel his family home to update and upgrade it for his own family's needs. My grandfather saved much of his hard earned money to help his family. Grandpa's generosity is why I was able to pay off my student loans shortly after graduation and before they had time to accumulate compounding interest. Grandpa also contributed generously to the education of his great great grandchildren long before they even had to think about such things. He taught me a lot about hard work, honesty, and tenacity. Grandpa was a member of IBEW local 124, I am honored to have the opportunity to work with them to protect the rights of workers, and families, to promote fair wages and benefits, and support the working class. Unions have done so much for the rights of workers and families in this country and I am honored to join the continuing legacy of that work.
