State Rep. Anthony Ealy, D-Grandview, celebrates the life of Alvin Brooks, one of Kansas City's most prominent civil servants. Brooks has worn many hats in his long and incredible life: one of the first Black police officers in the Kansas City Police Department, a teacher, a civil rights leader, the founder of an anti-crime nonprofit, and a politician.
Alvin Brooks remains active in the community at 92 years old and serves as a reminder that our history is not in the past. Instead, it's constantly and continuously created here in the present.
