JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – State Rep. Anthony Ealy, D-Grandview, successfully advocated for and secured $3.4 million in the House of Representative’s proposed budget for FY2025. More than $2.8 million is earmarked for the Community Assistance Council and recovery support services for opioid and other substance abuse.
“I want to thank the House Budget Chair for his willingness to reach across the aisle to work with me to ensure our state provides funding for these critical services and initiatives,” said Ealy. “Our state is in the midst of the opioid crisis that has gripped our nation. It’s crucial we provide adequate funding to combat this epidemic. For Missouri, in 2022, there were 2,180 deaths from overdoses, with more than 70 percent caused by opioids. This funding is a great start, but we have a lot work yet to do. I will continue to advocate and push for more funding for these recommendations as the budget makes its way through the Senate and eventually to the Governor.”
Rep. Ealy’s budget recommendations include:
- $1 million for the Community Assistance Council
- $500,000 for operations
- $500,00 for a new building to expand operations
- $250,000 for the Arts Asylum for in Kansas City
- $1.8 million increase for recovery support services for opioid and substance abuse
- $100,000 for public safety programs
- $250,000 for local business central development
The House’s proposed budget will now go to the State Senate for consideration.
