Ealy’s House Bill 2591 and House Concurrent Resolution 46 would each create an annual day of awareness for amyloidosis on May 8 hearing.
Amyloidosis is a rare organ disease that results from an overaccumulation of the protein amyloid in internal organs. Eventually, this accumulation can lead to organ failure. The disease typically occurs in older adults and more often in men. Without treatment, it has a life expectancy of six months to four years. However, life expectancy can extend significantly with proper treatment.
